Off-Grid Or On-Grid Solar Power Which is Better For You?

Home solar panel systems can be installed as stand-alone systems or grid-tied systems. They are also known as off-grid systems or on-grid systems.

On-grid solar system

Grid-tied or grid-tied systems are solar panel systems that work with or are connected to the utility grid. When your solar panels produce less electricity than your home needs, the grid provides the rest. On the other hand, when your solar panel system produces more electricity than your home needs, the excess electricity is fed back to the grid for distribution to other electricity consumers.

At night, when your solar system isn’t producing as much power, your home draws power from the grid. The grid will provide credits for the electricity your panels provide and apply such credits to your nightly electricity usage.

Off-Grid Or On-Grid Solar Power Which is Better For You

Off-grid Solar System

Standalone or off-grid solar systems are not connected to the grid, but instead use storage batteries to store the electricity generated. Your solar panel system will generate more electricity during the day than your home consumes. When the solar panel system produces very little power, the excess power is used to charge the battery at night where it draws power from you.Freestanding solar panel systems are primarily used in rural areas without access to the grid.

On-grid or on-grid solar systems are a more popular option among homeowners because of the lower installation costs and the assurance that they won’t run out of power if the solar panels generate less power.
